š£ General Guidelines
HP Animagus Fest is a fandom-wide anonymous fest celebrating all things animagi.
As such, all ships (or lack of ships) are accepted. Ship bashing will NOT be tolerated. Nobody is required to create content for a ship they do not like, nor is anybody required to read or view content for a ship they do not like. In addition, all claiming participants must be 18 years or older.
š¢ Prompting:
Prompting opens on Saturday, November 7th at 9:00 am EST. You may submit as many prompts as you would like. Anyone may submit a prompt, even if you are not planning to create for this fest!
Prompts must involve animagi in some form. The prompt could include a character becoming an animagus, a character rejecting their animagus form, a character being stuck in an animagus form, a character using their animagus abilities, or anything related to animagi.
You can prompt with your alias or anonymously. You will need the prompt idea and a maximum rating for work(s) inspired by the prompt, as well as any potential pairings or partnerings for the prompt. General fic prompts without pairings or partnerings are also welcome.
In the prompting form, you also have the option to provide your AO3 username, additional suggestions for the creator to consider including, and dislikes/squicks for the creator to consider avoiding. None of these fields are required, and there is no guarantee that the creator will follow the suggestions and dislikes/squicks you provide.
There will be a space to enter a self-prompt on the claiming form if you wish to self-prompt. If you intend to self-prompt for claiming, please do not send your prompt in during the prompting phase. The prompts submitted while prompting is open will be able to be claimed by anyone.
You can find the Prompting Form HERE while itās open. The form will open at 9:00 am EST on Saturday, November 7th.
Prompting closes on Friday, December 4th at 11:59 pm PST.
š Claiming:
Claiming opens on Thursday, December 10th at 7:00 pm EST. Claiming closes on Saturday, February 20th at 11:59 pm PST.
Prompts will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
Each prompt can be claimed twice for fic and twice for art.
Please choose your top three prompts in order of preference when claiming (i.e. your top prompt as prompt choice 1, your second choice as prompt choice 2, and your third choice as prompt choice 3). These tiered choices will be used in case your first choice has already been claimed. However, if youāve got your heart set on just one prompt, you are welcome to submit the claiming form with just one prompt! The odds are in your favour!
If youāre self-prompting, please only include one prompt choice in the claiming form and provide us with a brief description of your prompt in the open text box provided.
You may also self-prompt for podfic. However, the selected work must meet the minimum word count of 1000 words. You should include a link to the published fic in the open text box provided, and you must email the mods written proof of permission to podfic the fic from the original author. If you are sending screenshots of private conversations, please ensure you ask screenshotting permission from the original author to protect their privacy.
You can only claim one prompt at a time. If you finish your prompt, you may claim an additional prompt if the claiming window is still open. If you have finished your prompt and wish to claim another, please email your header to hpanimagusfest@gmail.com and let us know you wish to claim an additional prompt before submitting another claim form.
If you claim a prompt and subsequently feel unable to complete the work, please inform us as soon as possible at hpanimagusfest@gmail.com. This allows us to free the prompt claim up for another creator. We understand that life can get in the way! Unfortunately, however, in such circumstances, you will not be eligible to claim another prompt for HP Animagus Fest 2021.
You can find the Claiming Form HERE while itās open. The form will open at 7:00 pm EST on Thursday, December 10th.
You will receive an email within 36 hours confirming your (hopefully) successful claim! Please respond to this email within 72 hours to confirm your participation in HP Animagus Fest 2021.
This fest is anonymous, so please do not discuss your claimed prompt with anyone other than your alpha, beta, and/or cheerleader(s) (and your friendly neighborhood mods). If you are requesting an alpha, a beta, or a cheerleader in a public forum, please keep information shared about your claimed prompt in the public forum to a minimum.
Claiming closes on Saturday, February 20th at 11:59 pm PST.
š³ Creating:
For fics, there is a minimum word count of 1000 words and no maximum word count. However, please give the mods advance notice if you believe your fic will be over 50k. This is simply to give the mods advance notice to schedule enough time to pre-read the fic for appropriate tags and warnings before posting.
All fics MUST be beta read before submitting them. If you require assistance finding a beta, please let us know.
Submissions must be completed works. As this is an anonymous fest, all creations must be individual works, and works cannot be part of a series or set as a prequel or sequel to an existing work.
Created works should use the prompt in some way, and they must involve animagi in some form. We encourage you to use the prompterās suggests and to avoid their dislikes/squicks, but this is not required. We do ask that you do not gift your creation to the prompter if you are not avoiding their dislikes/squicks, and as always, do be sure to tag your work appropriately.
This fest employs a mixture of both anonymous and non-anonymous posting for creations to avoid uncredited reposting of art before reveals. All fics are posted anonymously. However, for art, we allow artists to include watermarks on their creations if they so wish.
Due to the anonymous nature of the fest, we wish to keep all creations completely anonymous until reveals (for fics) or posting (for art and podfics), and as such, we do not allow for fics or art to be discussed prior to the relevant reveals. This includes discussing it in a public forum whilst creating it or whilst the fest is underway. If you are looking for an alpha reader, a beta reader, or a cheerleader in a public forum, please keep the information provided about your work to a minimum.
A check-in email will be sent out for creators to share their progress on Saturday, January 16th.
š² Submitting:
Once you have completed your created work, itās time to submit! Submissions are due on Saturday, February 20th, but if you are finished before this date, you are welcome to submit before then.
When your work is ready to be submitted, please post the created work to the AO3 collection (instructions to follow on Dreamwidth and Tumblr), fill out the following header, and email the header to hpanimagusfest@gmail.com. If any of your header information changes after you have emailed it to us, you will need to send us an updated header.

Link to Work on AO3:
Your created work must be posted directly to the AO3 collection HERE.
You are required to add HPAnimagusFest as a co-creator on AO3 when uploading your created work. This is primarily to allow the mods to change the posting date during the posting period. We will not make changes to your fic, and we will remove the fest mod account for reveals.
Be sure to include all appropriate warnings, be sure to tag your work correctly, and please be mindful when choosing your tags. We enjoy a fun tag as much as the next person, but customised tags may be recognisable to some readers and give you away as the creator. As such, we ask that you think very carefully about your tag usage.
We want you to acknowledge the people who supported your creation! This includes alphas, betas, cheerleaders, and anyone else who helped you along the way! However, as this is anonymous, please do not mention these people by name until reveals, as this can sometimes be a way that creators are identified. A good way to do this is to use a pseudonym for them or to simply refer to these individuals with an initial. Please do remember to come back and acknowledge these people publicly after the reveals! Some people also like to gift their created work to the prompter, but this is not required.
Podfics need to be linked to the original authorās work to give credit. If the original authorās work is on AO3, you should indicate in the AO3 work that your podfic is inspired by the AO3 work of the original author.
The mods will proof all fics and inform you if any additional warning tags need to be added. Please check your emails regularly to see if weāve sent you a message regarding your work!
Please donāt change the date on your fic/art of your own accord. The mods reserve the right to remove your work from the collection if we see that the date has been changed during or after the fest.
Please contact the mods if you have any issues posting your work.
š Asking for Extensions:
The best way to contact the mods is to email hpanimagusfest@gmail.com.
If you need to drop out of the fest, please let the mods know via email as soon as possible so your prompt claim can potentially be filled by another creator.
If you need to request an extension, please let the mods know via email as soon as possible. In this email, please provide the current status of your WIP (such as by attaching it to the email), as well as include how much work you believe you have left (i.e., additional layers estimated for art or a final estimated word count for fic, additional editing/recording time estimated for podfic) to help us work with you on a new deadline.
Please do not be afraid to reach out to the mods for assistance. We are always happy to hear from you and help in any way we can!
š¦ Posting:
Posting for HP Animagus Fest 2021 will begin on Wednesday, March 3rd. Created works will be posted one at a time throughout the month, and the reveals date will be dependent on extensions and how many works were submitted overall.
The mods will post your creation on the scheduled day. We do not release the posting schedule as this is subject to change.
Once your creation has been posted, please be mindful not to reveal yourself as the creator.
We ask that you do not respond to comments on your creations until after reveals. This is to ensure that you do not identify yourself in your response. Additionally, responding after reveals can be a lovely way for the commenter to find out who created the work they loved so much!
While we hope that it will not happen, sometimes creations receive negative comments. If you receive a nasty or critical comment, please contact the mods via email ASAP. We have a process for handling these events, but we will work with you to do so so that you are included in every step if you wish to be ā or excluded from this, if that is your wish.
š Additional Information:
For general questions about the fest, please donāt hesitate to contact the mods. The best way to reach the mods is at hpanimagusfest@gmail.com to prevent your question from being lost. We are here to answer any and all questions, but please keep in mind that weāre operating in multiple time zones and that we need to eat and sleep and take care of real-life business, hence we wonāt be available 24/7. We will aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe.
Please note that should there be any disputes regarding the interpretation of the rules, the decision of the mods will be final.
